Wonder Woman’s New Look

Once again DC shows it doesn’t know what to do with one of its iconic characters. In this case, Wonder Woman. Newsflash: The problem with Wonder Woman isn’t her costume. But this and some origin retconning is how they think she’ll be fixed.

DC describes the new outfit as “a Wonder Woman look designed for the 21st century” that will allow Diana “to be taken seriously as a warrior, in partial answer to the many female fans over the years who’ve asked, ‘how does she fight in that thing without all her parts falling out?’ …The bracelets are still there, but made more colorful, tied on the inside and over the hand, with a script W on each of them that form WW when she holds them side by side… and if you get hit by one of them, it leaves a W mark. This is a Wonder Woman who signs her work.”

The problem with Wonder Woman isn’t her look. It’s her personality. She has never been a warm, appealing character. She starts off with this man hater history which is a turn off, especially in a field where the majority of comics readers are men.

Secondly, while she does change her attitude somewhat when she comes ashore, the whole men are evil mentality continues. It’s misandry, plain and simple and that’s unappealing.

Third, she lacks personality. A character needs to be appealing in some way for people to care about them. Every writer of that character failed to give us a reason to give a damn about her. Being good looking isn’t enough, especially in a world were 99% of the women are babes.

Her backstory isn’t very well thought out. The guy who created her, William Moulton Marston, was a bit of a perv who was into bondage, which is why she got tied up a lot back in the ’40s.

Until she gets handled by someone who understands the problems with this character and knows how to really fix them, this reboot is going to be yet another in a long line of failures. I don’t see anything in the press about what they want to do to change that opinion.

UPDATE: Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood says “DC Ruined Wonder Woman”. I agree with GeorgeC that it’ll last two years at most before they revert to the old look. I give it a year, actually.

Kagan A Dangerous Supreme Pick

The fact that she refuses to answer this, and suggests the courts should not strike down such a law, is scary as hell. And to think there was only one vote that reaffirmed our gun rights yesterday, which shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place. Gun control has racist roots. It was created to rob blacks of the ability to defend themselves. Progressives want everyone to be powerless that way.

Here we have a progressive supreme court nominee who has no problem with banning books, or laws telling you what you can eat. This is extremely disturbing and even moreso that there are people out there who approve of this stuff.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Trailer

Looks pretty impressive. I’m sure it will make some bucks.

Pixar: The Secret Ingredients

I discuss why Pixar movies do so well over on Big Hollywood today.

Haven’t seen Toy Story 3 yet, but I hear it’s great.

RIP Robert Byrd: “The Emperor Palpatine of Pork”

Senator Robert Byrd died today. He was 92. Another reason we need term limits. The whole idea of lifetime senators is a mistake that should have gone out in the 20th century.

Nick Gillespie of Reason died a great review of his career here.

I’ll give Byrd some credit for sticking up for the occasional constitutional principals when someone like Obama tried to ram through some nonsense. But in the end, he was just another hack.

Byrd was one of the last of the old time Senators who’d been in power for 40+ years (52 in Byrd’s case). Time tio put an end to that practice. I don’t think anyone should be able to serve more than two terms in the Senate.

An Antediluvian Map?

Antediluvian, if you’re unfamiliar with the term, means pre-flood. Pre-Noah’s Ark. In otherwords, prehistory.

There has been indications of civilizations far older than recorded history. But evidence has been scant. Not surprising since we’re talking about stuff surviving over incredible epochs of time. So that’s why the Dashka stone is cause for some excitement. It’s a stone tablet that may come from one of these eras. It has writing in a completely unknown language and it indicates a civilization more advanced that any previously known.

Democrats Are Anti-Free Speech

Pelosi rammed another bill through this week with the usual sleazy backroom deal making, which is a “Campaign Finance Reform” law aimed at getting around the Supreme Court’s recent gutting of McCain/Feingold. This new bill once again limits free speech in political ads, except for unions, who are excluded from the law.

This Mark Levin podcast explains the scam.

The Democrats are constitutional criminals. There is no other honest way to describe them. They are systematically trying to rob us of our rights. They need to go.

Dead Space

This game is incredible. One of the best FPS games I’ve played. If you’re a fan of survival horror action games like Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, or Doom, you’ll love this. It’s got a great story and amazing graphics. Steam is selling it for a song right now. The sequel is due out in January.

Stock Up on Light Bulbs

On January 1st the government will make the sale of 100 watt bulbs illegal, because they are mandating that everyone buy those ugly, expensive fluorescent bulbs filled with mercury which are environmentally toxic. Why? To save the planet of course! Another example of bureaucracy at its finest.

In the midst of an economic crisis, troubles in Afghanistan and various terrorist threats around the globe, the last thing on the minds of Americans is the light bulb. That didn’t stop the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) earlier this month from releasing 91 pages of regulations that will force manufacturers to revise their packaging and make costly compact fluorescent bulbs appear more appealing to consumers.

Congress ordered these changes in 2007 as part of its decision to force the dim, overpriced, mercury-filled product on a public that so far has refused to embrace it willingly. Beginning Jan. 1, 2012, bureaucratic rules will phase in, and 100-watt versions of Thomas Edison’s venerable invention will be first on the contraband list. Sylvania, the largest light-bulb company in North America, found in a telephone survey last year that three-quarters of Americans have no idea that Congress is coming for their light bulbs. If you like a safe, warm glow with your lighting, now would be a good time to start stocking up on incandescents

I’ve been saying for years, these big government types will systematically take away your freedoms and rights all in the name of “saving you”. The larger a government gets, the more feral and corrupt it gets. That is why limited government is the only solution to tyranny. We need government of some kind, but it needs to be tied down and politicians need a very short lease. Our so called leaders are ignorant, corrupt ideological cranks and they cannot be allowed to get away with the nonsense they are doing any longer.

The Stupidity of Bureaucrats

Two Crooks, One Shaft

Once again the Democrats are trying to ram a 2,000 page bill no one has read into law. This time, completely overhauling the banking and finance regulations giving government sweeping powers and putting their fingers in every pie. Of course it’s being sold as an answer to all the fiscal problems the country had in the wake of the mortgage meltdown. So who wrote this bill? Why the two chumps largely responsible for for the meltdown in the first place. Chris Dodd and Barney Frank, two of the sleaziest creatures polluting the DC swamp. This cartoon summarizes what they did. How do you think this is going to help the economy when money is already tight?

Congress has handed its tab to the banking industry: $20 billion over five years to rein in risk taking, shore up capital and acclimate to all sorts of new regulations concerning the financial world. That’s how much the Congressional Budget Office estimates the 2000-page Dodd-Frank financial reform bill will cost to implement, and the funds will be raised by fees the government will charge banks with more than $50 billion of assets and hedge funds with more than $10 billion.

The voters gave the Democrats control of two branches of government which is like giving the mob control of your bank accounts and personal information. The damage they have done to the US in just the last year and a half has been staggering. We can only hope this fails to get through some how, because let’s face some facts here.

1. Regulation has never solved anything. The Federal reserve was created to regulate the banks and prevent depressions. Shortly after they were founded, we has the great depression.
2. FDR’s regulations lengthened the Depression.
3. We already had tons of regulations governing the financial and banking industries. It was government who ordered the banks to do those risky high risk mortgages. The government’s mismanaged Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were supposed to back them up. They helped create the entire crisis.
4. Politicians are generally either incompetent or corrupt. Giving them more power makes things worse not better.

Two of the sleaziest politicians we have, who were in on the whole thing from the start, are going to tell the banks how to act properly? It’s a titanic disgrace and heads should roll.

16 Batmobile Mods

Some interesting and funky Batmobiles. Some are real cars, others are models or case mods. The corvette made me laugh, but it is a nice job, I have to say.
