How TV Ruined Your Life

Conspicuous consumption is a relatively new idea for the masses, dreamed up by a man named Edward Bernays to help American manufacturers sell more products. It has spiraled out of control into an insane culture that is hitting the walls of reality as the world economy can’t sustain the debt created by the demands of the entitlement culture.

    Uh, no. Does “model T” ring a bell? Lowering the “asperations” of the masses is socialist agenda item 1a. When “economic democracy” (aka socialism) was being pushed in the 80s, Jerry Brown was telling California citizens they should be “satisfied with less”. After all, before you can tax away the money people use for all those fancy houses, cars and vacations, it’s important to first convince them that life stinks and it won’t do them any good anyway.

    I expect your vid clip is now timely because libertarians are claiming that we’re broke, but the pro-government types are pointing out that the citizenry still has lots of money that they haven’t even begun to loot.

      It’s an interesting paradox of sorts. I don’t believe the claim that we’re “running out of things”. We can make as much as is needed, there is a planet full of resources. It’s all in the supply chain and infrastructure. The problem is, we created a consumer culture which makes people want things they don’t need, so many people over extend themselves credit wise. And now we are in the period where people have to deal with the reality that sets in.

      The same applies to government, which makes promises it can’t keep as a bribe to the citizens to try to buy their votes and a acquiescence. There has to be a happy medium.

      The point of the video above is TV creates this bogus ideal world in people’s minds that doesn’t exist. It makes people crave worthless crap and lifestyles that are empty and ultimately worthless. In general people are moving away from things of true value. like family and community. Charlie Sheen being a great example of a creature of desire with no idea how empty his world really is, because it’s very temporary.

    One thing IS for sure… having a lot of things doesn’t make you happy.

    It just fills your house up quickly!

    P.S. — I’ve got no illusions.

    The US is broke… There’s little money that the government can drain from the middle class and the game’s been rigged so that the supporters of the lawyers-in-government and robber barons will NEVER pay more than they currently do even if their “tax rates” are jacked up.

    Sure, a certain number of rich will be affected — but those are the people who don’t patron politicians in governnment.

    I’d love to see a bunch of politicians flushed down the toilet like so much feces… I don’t know who we’re going to fix government’s house unless more of the career politicians and other opportunists are voted out first. Would help if some of the appointed judges who believe in flexible law would retire, too.
