Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (trailer 2)

A much better trailer that gives you a better sense of the film.

REVIEW: Lockout

Can’t believe I went so long without posting something. It’s been a busy week.

Anyway. I saw Lockout last night and I enjoyed it. It’s a very entertaining film, not very deep but it’s very fun and fast paced. One big problem is one of the major villains has an almost indecipherable Scots accent. The bad guys are mostly two dimensional. Aside from that, its the story of a CIA agent framed and sent to an orbital prison, but he gets to make a deal to rescue the President’s daughter who is stuck up there during a breakout/riot. It’s simple and direct but its crammed with action and suspense. Snow (Pearce) is a barrel of one liners that are often pretty funny. He’s sort of like a futuristic John McClane (Die Hard).

Guy Pearce is great as usual. Its good to see him in a starring role. The guy is really underused and underrated.

There’s also a couple of jokes at the expense of Democrats which is something you don’t see too often.

Thank You, Peeps!

New Comics Project

I’ve been working on an entirely new comics project which I have an interested publisher for. The art looks amazing and its coming along very nicely. I hope to be sharing a peek soon.

In the mean time, the color Age of Heroes trade is coming this fall in the UK and im working to finish 2 to the Chest this year. I’m planning a Kickstarter campaign to hasten it along. Stay tuned.

I was informed by the publisher of my comics in digital form, Devils Due, that 2 to the Chest is the hardest thing of mine to find issues of. Im looking forward to finishing it and having it made available digitally.

Total Recall Trailer

A remake of Total Recall that looks interesting. Poor Colin Farrell can’t carry a movie though, so I wonder if it will do any business. I liked his Fright Night remake but it didn’t do any business.

Losing Your Rights

President Obama has been working hard to make sure you lose your rights. Think that’s absurd? Even Democrats admit it on video. Incrementalism is whats killing us.

Politicians of both parties pass laws that are illegal under the constitution but they don’t care because they only get struck down if they go to court and lose in the Supreme Court. It takes millions of dollars to try a case that far usually. So few people challenge these laws and there’s no guarantee that challenging them will even work. Obama wants to stack the courts with ideologues who don’t care about the constitution. If he gets reelected he may get more justices into the courts and that would be detrimental to everyone. So make no mistake, this election is critically important.

3 Day Monster Deadline!!

I should have posted this sooner. My friend and collaborator Batton Lash has a campaign on Kickstarter of which I’m a donor, and he has three days left for people to donate. He’s already reached his goal but is trying to get over $9,000 for expenses. He low balled it initially because he had no idea how it would do.

Here’s the video explaining his project

Help Batton reach his goal. That would be great and you will be rewarded.

Also please check out Frank Silas project. Sledgehammer. HE only has 5 days to go and its not looking good.

Having Fun With My iPad

If it was a woman I would probably marry it. It really love it, no doubt. And I’m probably going to start doing video blogs using it once I get more into using imovie which I’ve been playing around with.

I wanted to do a video about the Zimmerman/Martin case but the story is finally coming out that Martin instigated it not the other way around. I may still do it. The bottom line with this case is the prejudices of people on both sides are whats driving it not he facts. A lot of blacks assume Martin was an innocent victim and the media has painted Zimmerman as a racist shooter but now that the facts are coming out they are once again looking bad. And they are starting to cover themselves.

Anyway, I use the ipad for a lot of things besides blog. So many useful apps. Its much better than carrying around a bulky laptop except for typing. Thats where the laptop has it beat. But I can always buy a keyboard for it later if I want. As it easy it’s way handier than I imagined it would be.

Atlas Shrugged

I watched the film finally on my ipad and while I could see room for improvement it was certainly an acceptable film in terms of quality. Could have used more humor and snappier dialog. But it did a fairly good job of showing the kind of statist take over of business we’ve been seeing in the last three years. Its certainly a timely movie. If you haven’t read the novel by Ayn Rand this is just part one of three. Its hard to say if the other parts will be finished but they certainly gave it a good effort here and one thing struck me as ironic about it. The plot involves a railroad baroness trying to update her railroad lines with metal against government wishes, The state is trying to put the squeeze on her company and Rearden steel which has some new super-metal that might put steel companies out of business. So in the film the state is trying to stop a high speed rail project while in real life the state of California is trying to shove one down the people’s throats in the middle of a budget crisis.

The problem I have with Rand’s story is it makes some good points but is missing a larger point about government. It colludes with companies favoring some at the expense of others. In Rand’s story successful companies are punished so the failures can prosper. The reality is a little more complex. But as we saw with the corrupt bailouts of GM and Chrysler all kinds of sick favoritism went on and the public had their money wasted on the Volt, a car no one wants.

This week we get to see if the Supreme Court strikes down Obamacare another case of the government overreaching its power and destroying industries. Hopefully the film makers of this series get to finish what they started.

Here’s John Stossel talking about the film and why its relevant

Got Myself an iPad

I finally got one and love it as much as I suspected I would. I went for a ipad2 for now because I am looking to get a new car and they are $100 off. It really lives up to the hype, though. And after reading about the 3 I think I can hold off for the next one. We’ll see.

In the mean time I can now see how the sites I do look on tablets which will be the average persons computer very soon. There are already more mobile computers (including smart phones) than desktops. So as a web developer the writing is on the wall. You have to make your sites for both “mainstream” computers and mobile devices now.

I also want to use it to develop comics for digital format which as I have long predicted is where it going. Anyway, I love it!

Do It Yourself Superhumanism

Also discussing unschooling and the future of print journalism. I agree with Mark that public school is not a place to educate people. Anything the government runs ends up being crap eventually.
