Beyond Black Mesa
This is an awesome fan movie set in the Half-Life 2 Universe. If you haven’t played Half-Life 2, it’s awesome. One of the best games ever made.
The New Batman Villains are Set
So Deadline Hollywood tells us that Anne Hathaway is going to play Selena Kyle in the new Dark Knight Rises movie, which means Catwoman is on board. Tom Hardy has been named as playing Bane, which is a disappointment since I find Bane and incredibly lame villain. He’s just a dumb thug with super-strength. Hopefully Nolan will make the character interesting. Tom Hardy is a fine actor so I’m sure he is up to the task. Not sure about Hathaway as the Catwoman, but she has the eyes for it.
The King’s Speech
Of the three movies I consider the best of last year, this is one of them. I just saw it today. Amazing movie. I have to confess to a love of films about Royals. But this is one of the best movies I’ve seen in awhile. It’s the true story of the current Queen’s dad, how he was a stutterer who assumed the throne when his brother abdicated in the 1930s. He couldn’t speak publicly, yet he had to. The age of mass media had begun. So the hired a speech therapist who helped him learn to talk properly. It’s a surprisingly interesting and powerful film. I highly recommend it.
My other two picks of best movies of last year are True Grit, a masterpiece. And the Social Network. The Fighter was also really good but I wouldn’t put it in the top three.
Captain America in Action
From the forthcoming movie, we can see that they kept the wings on the mask. They’re just painted on, which is fine. I’d say this costume is good for his origin story but when he gets revived in the present he will undoubtedly, get something more current looking. More images here.
Tetsuo: The Bullet Man
Sequel to Tetsuo: Iron Man. I can see why they had to change the title.
Tarantino’s First Movie
It even has a few references to things he mentions in later films, like K-Billy radio which is in Reservoir Dogs. From the notes:
It’s Mickey’s Birthday and his girlfriend just left him, so that’s when his friend Clarence shows him a birthday he’ll never forget.
The film was completed, but the final reel was destroyed in a lab fire that broke out during editing. The surviving part of the film was shown in part to a small crowd in early 1987.
Actor Allen Garfield was teaching Quentin Tarantino acting at the time, and that is how he also became involved in the project. Filmed over three years, from 1984-1987.
Later became the basis for True Romance (1993)
The Mechanic Trailer
I love the original. Hope this is good.
Limitless Trailer
I always wanted something like this drug. Who wouldn’t?
Rango Trailer
This looks fun and the new Pirates of the Caribbean trailer doesn’t look too bad either.
