Movie Memories: If It’s Tuesday, It Must Be Belgium
When I was a kid I saw this movie in the theater. It was playing with something else, I don’t remember. This was the “B” picture. I remember the title and not much else besides Susanne Pleshette was very hot in it. And there was a character who was always stealing stuff from his hotel rooms. It was about people in a European tour bus visiting different countries. Anyway, I was curious to see it again but it wasn’t on Netflix so I found this clip on YouTube. And Holy Mother of Christ, that’s Ian McShane in bed. He must have been in his early 20s. So that was the first movie I must have seen him in. Next time it was probably the Lew Grade Jesus of Nazereth movie from 1980 where he played Judas. Wow. Oh wait, he was also in The Last of Sheila, an weird 70s film.
He didn’t make an impression on me until I saw Sexy Beast and I was going “Who IS that guy? Damn, he’s effective.” Then came Deadwood and I went back and rented all the Lovejoys. I kind of want to see this film again because it might bring back some memories.
Jon Hamm As Superman?
I have to admit before there was speculation that Jon Hamm might be cast as Superman in the upcoming Zack Snyder film, I thought his Mad Man character kind of looked like the Curt Swann Superman I grew up with as a kid. Here is a decent photoshop of Hamm in costume. No casting choice has been made yet.
Helen Mirren: An Appreciation
One of my favorite actresses has a new movie about to come out, Red, based on the Warren Ellis comic. Cinematical does a nice article about her career here. It includes a smoking hot video of her from her youth, shot 10 years before I first discovered her in the late 1970s. She is a combination of class and sex appeal, and a very strong, intelligent actress.
Sadly, they neglected to mention one of her best movies, The Long Good Friday, which is one of my all time favorite crime films. It was a low budget British flick that came out in 1980 starring Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren. I saw it when I was living over there. It has Pierce Brosnan’s first movie role (no dialog). Here’s the trailer. Watch it if you haven’t. It’s fantastic.
I hope to be seeing Red this weekend. Looks fun.
True Grit Trailer
The Coen Brothers are redoing True Grit, making it closer to the novel on which both movies are based. I’ve been waiting for this trailer. We’ll see how well it does. I like Jeff Bridges a lot,but he has some tall boots to fill.
All Star Superman Trailer
I liked the comic, so let’s hope this is good.
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse
I just watched this. It was pretty decent. Nice fight scenes. It tells the story of how Supergirl came to earth and Darksied kidnaps her so he can turn her into one of his Furies. Superman, Batman Wonder Woman and Big Barda go to Apocalypse to save her.
The Soundtracks of John Barry
One of my all time favorite movie composers.
Thor Trailer
If you haven’t seen it, here is the extended Comic-Con Thor trailer.
Anyone Remember this Trailer?
It was pulled after 9/11 happened in 2001
