Another Right has Been Removed
It’s a sad day in hell when one of the more left wing supreme court justices is the only one who sees the obvious here.
The Supreme Court on Monday gave police more leeway to break into residences in search of illegal drugs.
The justices in an 8-1 decision said officers who loudly knock on a door and then hear sounds suggesting evidence is being destroyed may break down the door and enter without a search warrant.
Residents who “attempt to destroy evidence have only themselves to blame” when police burst in, said Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr.
In a lone dissent, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she feared the ruling in a Kentucky case will give police an easy way to ignore the 4th Amendment. “Police officers may not knock, listen and then break the door down,” she said, without violating the 4th Amendment.
Our constitutional rights are being stripped away all the the name of “protecting society.” Let’s be real here, the war on drugs has been a colossal and expensive failure. Not only has it turned many neighbors to the south into lawless nightmares, it has empowered gangs and organized crime in utterly insane ways. We are losing our rights wile our world is becoming more dangerous.
How is that a good thing? It needs to stop. Prohibition does not work.
Stupidity of the Day
A lawyer was fired after he refused to participate in a retreat his boss wanted him to go on. The boss wouldn’t tell him what was going to happen at the retreat because it was supposed to be a big secret. Fortunately, we live in the age of the internet and search engines. Here is what he probably found when he Googled up the ManKind retreat, which is apparently all over the US.
Personally, I think retreats designed to help people get in touch with themselves are largely a scam. The 70s was full of them. They were used to indoctrinate people into cults like EST and the Moonies.
Kagan A Dangerous Supreme Pick
The fact that she refuses to answer this, and suggests the courts should not strike down such a law, is scary as hell. And to think there was only one vote that reaffirmed our gun rights yesterday, which shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place. Gun control has racist roots. It was created to rob blacks of the ability to defend themselves. Progressives want everyone to be powerless that way.
Here we have a progressive supreme court nominee who has no problem with banning books, or laws telling you what you can eat. This is extremely disturbing and even moreso that there are people out there who approve of this stuff.
Fascism Watch Dujour
The administration is trying to establish legal control of the internet, bypassing the courts. They want to control free speech there, as is outlined in many administration members papers, notably Marc Lloyd and Cass Sunstein. Another reason to vote out any Obama enablers come November.
No Hitler for You!
Youtube has removed all the Downfall parodies where a scene with Hitler and his generals from the movie has been subtitled with joke dialog. They claim there was a DMCA complaint. So the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is up in arms over it.
Too bad. Any were funny, even though the scene has been used a zillion times. I even linked to a few here.
Bust Biz Bullies the Vandals!
My latest piece for Big Hollywood how Variety is suing the Vandals merely for using the same font as their logo. It’s pretty outrageous.
Why Obama Hates the “Citizens United vs FEC” Ruling
My latest Big Journalism piece, which details the history of McCain-Feingold and why Obama is so angry it was defeated. Important reading!
I will have a Obama Nation Cartoon this Sunday to go with this article.
McCain in Vain
About today’s SCOTUS decision on Big Journalism
I have another one coming on the ending of Air America.
UPDATE: Here is my Air America piece.
Convicted for Manga
A manga collector has been convicted of possessing obscene materials.
In an obscenity first, a U.S. comic book collector has pleaded guilty to importing and possessing Japanese manga books depicting illustrations of child sex abuse and bestiality.
Christopher Handley, described by his lawyer as a “prolific collector” of manga, pleaded guilty last week to mailing obscene matter, and to “possession of obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children.” Three other counts were dropped in a plea deal with prosecutors.
They do have those kinds of comics in Japan, but not knowing which books they are referring to, it’s hard to know if they were really about kids since they draw a lot of characters to look that way.
The problem here is these comics are not based on anything other than the authors own fictional work. But there is a stupid law that says any drawing that looks like child porn is child porn. The reason it’s stupid is it opens a door which will make it easier to prosecute a lot of things that aren’t even close. It also sets a precedent for worse laws to come.
Obama’s Racist Pick?
You have to wonder if Obama’s pick for the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor, is another identity politics racist. Consider two examples:
First, her ruling on a “reverse discrimination” case. It’s pretty outrageous how she handled it. FYI: There is no such thing as reverse discrimination. Only discrimination. And that sounded like a clear case.
Then her comment that ““I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”
Well first of all, that statement isn’t very wise. Wise people don’t call themselves wise. And only a fool thinks their race means anything in the real world. Race doesn’t give people any insights. Maybe your life experience does, but there are a lot of clueless people of every race.
My concern with her isn’t just her racial views, but her position on things like the second amendment and statism. So far, I have not been too encouraged by what I have read. She was a Clinton pick for teh Supreme Court but he was not able to get her in.
UPDATE: More to chew on.
Ellison Suing Paramount
Just in time for the upcoming Star Trek movie, Harlan Ellison is suing Paramount over money he feels he’s owed for his “City on the Edge of Forever” script he did over 40 years ago. His press release is pretty entertaining though I’m not sure if any judge will see the merits in his case. It is, after all, something he could have done decades ago if he really felt that strongly about it.
Ellison’s complaint also deals with the Writer’s Guild which he has served on several times as a board member. But now it seems he has come to a realization that I came to many moons ago in my Harsh Realm lawsuit against Fox. The WGA does not really defend writers. It actually serves as a buffer between writers and the studios and in many respects acts like a lap dog of the producers. They weren’t even interested in our side in the Harsh Realm suit. They just went along with whatever Chris Carter wanted. Of course, he was a member and we were not, but the fix was in. They are not interested in the rights of writers. If they were they wouldn’t have needed to strike last year because they would have negotiated what they needed on other media rights long beforehand.
Unions are a scam.
