The Psycho

The Psycho was originally published by DC Comics in 1991. It was written by James Hudnall and illustrated by Daniel Brereton. A trade collecting the work is available from Image Comics.

The story concerns a CIA agent name Jake Riley, who’s assigned to watching super-humans, nicknamed “psychos”, that work for foreign governments. Jake is posted in a eastern European nation in the Balkans. The government there is giving a tax haven to super-humans. Jake is set to watch them, but when he’s exposed as an agent, Jake is hunted. In order to survive, he has to become the one thing he despises most to survive. He becomes a psycho.

The story was way ahead of its time, but is much copied today. A film version is still in development.

The art was fully painted by superb illustrator Daniel Brereton.
